Dalton Sikes
Writer, Poet, & Essayist
Who am I?
My name is Dalton Sikes and I'm the chaotic introvert you likely adopted into your friend circle. I'm a writer, poet, and the quiet one everyone suspects of being the killer at the start of the scary movie; however, there's more to my story than meets the eye.
Originally, I was born in the sunshine of Southern California; yet, I grew up in the Pacific Northwest. While here, I developed asthma, a severe speech impediment, and an overachiever personality that irks even my professors. I'm just kidding... the speech impediment began before I moved here. From a young age, I learned kids can be cruel, teachers can be even crueler, and the value of effective communication. Given these experiences, it should come as no surprise that I have a dark sense of humor and enjoy tackling harder subject matter in my own work. Writing was my place to escape where I could make friends, tell stories, and not have to do weird vocal exercises to learn to speak like the bullies around me. My childhood instilled in me a desire to help and connect with those around me through written word. I want people who struggled like me to feel seen and for readers to contemplate their own complicity in perpetuating bullying, prejudice, and/or other reprehensible behaviors/mentalities. Come along on this journey with me as I continue to write thought-provoking works that will hopefully leave a lasting impression on you.
